At Manor Hill we use Power Maths which has been recommended by the DfE, a mastery scheme that works for every child. It is based upon the concrete, pictorial and abstract approach., known as CPA.
Each lesson comprises of Power Up warm up skills, Discover and Share to introduce new concepts in a supportive way, Think Together giving a shared practice session, Practice allowing pupils to apply learning independently and Reflect a session where the learning is drawn together . Children are encouraged to solve problems each day through the use of concrete resources, pictorial representations and abstract thinking.
Central to this scheme is the idea that all children can achieve and be successful mathematicians with the right growth mindset. It promotes five child friendly characters, each with their own skill set, to inspire and motivate children to become positive learners.
