Art

The Art and Design curriculum is structured around three key concepts: drawing, painting, and sculpture. Each unit of work encompasses these core areas, ensuring that children develop a broad and deep understanding of artistic principles over time. This cumulative approach allows students to build on their knowledge progressively, enriching their artistic skills, creativity, and critical thinking.

Key strands within the Art and Design curriculum provide the disciplinary knowledge and skills essential for students to grow as confident and capable artists. These strands are organised hierarchically, enabling a structured progression of learning where each stage builds upon the last. As part of this journey, students study a variety of artists, exploring their techniques and drawing inspiration from their work to enhance their own creativity and understanding of artistic practices.

Pupils are provided with a sketchbook in order to build up a portfolio of work so that they are able to reflect on their own progress as artists throughout their school life.
